The Quicksilver boom of the 19th century brought thousands of people in search of an easy dollar to the rugged and rich-soiled regions of California north of San Francisco. Few of them found the riches they sought in the mercury mines, but some stayed on in Geyserville and the Alexander Valley to seek a living by a harder, more rewarding means – farming.
In a roundabout way, it was mercury that brought wine to Geyserville. At Mercury Wines, we carry on a tradition of exploration, hard work and reward.
Mercury Wines specializes in estate-bottled Bordeaux-style blends, small-lot Pinot Noirs and esoteric white wines. We grow all five Bordeaux varietals in the Alexander Valley and we source grapes from other interesting vineyards, locally and elsewhere in California.
Founded in 2005, and fully realized as a brand in 2009, Mercury Wines of Geyserville is the brainchild of Brad Beard. Brad is an Arizona native who has had a storied career in both sales and wine, so it was a natural fit for him to run his own wine label some day. With the help of local friends who grow and make wine, Brad employs his preternaturally sensitive palate to design wines that reflect the best aspects of old-world winemaking traditions and the demands of contemporary tastes.
