2009 Russian River Pinot Noir

Picture

ALC: 14.6%
Varietal: Pinot Noir
Cooperage: 18 months in neutral French oak
Appellation: Russian River Valley
Filtered: Yes
Production: 125 cases
This Pinot comes from the Eastern side of the Russian River Valley appellation, close to Chalk Hill Road. The soil is a mix of volcanic rock and river bottom.  The marine influence is similar to Carneros, with a heavy layer that comes early and lingers late.

The color is a beautiful crystal clear ruby. The nose is restrained with hints of strawberry and cherry, giving way to a touch of earthy cream. On the palate you are greeted with ripe cherry, strawberry and a bit of cassis that works perfectly with the slightly earthy mid-palate. The tannins are well-structured and take you to a nice smooth finish with hints of that strawberry cherry cream coming full circle.
