Cooperage: Both American and French Oak 24 mos.

This Malbec base blend has striking deep ruby color with a light magenta lip. The nose is sharp with cassis and currant. On the front palate you are greeted with supple black
currant that gives way to a mix of plum and cherries. You will also notice a Cabernet Sauvignon- like structure with the softness and fruit of a great merlot. As the wine finishes the plum gives way to cassis and cherry with tannins that are noticeable but not in the way.

Brad Beard with Mercury Wine talks about his best malbec wine.  This video is also excellent if you want to know "what is malbec wine?".  Brad
also talks a little about malbec wine characteristics and malbec wine pairing.  The transcript is below:

"Hello, I’m Brad Beard with Mercury Wine located in downtown Geyserville, California.  Today I’m going to talk to you about our Bastard wine.   The Bastard is our Malbec based wine.  It’s Malbec, a splash of Cabernet Sauvignon and a splash of Merlot.  Malbec is one of the five noble grapes of Bordeaux which have been used for hundreds of years there, but who really made it famous?  The Argentinians and Chileans put Malbec on the map.  Argentina and Chile have a little bit more of a European style wine where our Malbec here in Northern California is bigger, more fruity and more hearty, just like our Cabernet and our Merlot.  Malbec to me is an in-between grape, sort of in-between a Cabernet and Merlot.  It is soft like the Merlot, but has the structure of cab.  It has a wonderful rich nose.  It also has an herbaceous character, at least mine does anyway.  And for me this is my barbecue wine … if you’re having a wet sauce.  Like a Syrah will stand up to your smoked sausages … this Bastard will as well.  But, also easy to drink on its own."
